Sports Report - Futsal
Tonight the year 11 girls played in the area Futsal final in the Sports Hall against a strong BCA side.
The game started in a fairly pedestrian pace for both sides, with a lot of misplaced passes and lack of enthusiasm to get the ball. BCA took a deserved lead when their captain slotted home when left completely free in the area. The girls huffed and puffed but BCA took a two goal lead into the break which on reflection was more than deserved.
After a rousing speech at half time, the girls found another gear and started to run and hustle the BCA players into some mistakes. This soon turned to pulling a goal back as Mia Austin took a direct kick in and slotted it beautifully in the far corner of the goal. Suddenly there was belief and confidence, as Chilton poured forward. Austin passed from a kick in straight to Jess Brind who with her weaker foot rifled one into the top corner (definitely top bins) with a superb strike to level things with 3 minutes to go.
Austin went through one on one with the keeper with a chance to win it with 2 minutes to go but hit the post and you sensed the moment had gone. However she was played through by Nadine (who had a storming second half) and she coolly slotted away to make it 3-2 with 90 seconds left. However in a final twist BCA pummelled the defence with countless shots and crosses which led to an unfortunate own goal with 45 seconds to go to end the game at 3-3.
And so to penalties!
Jasmine Granter missed her penalty but BCA blasted over theirs. Austin had her penalty saved before Jasmine saved the next BCA penalty. Jess' penalty was saved before the BCA striker slotted a brilliant penalty away to seal their victory 1-0 in the shoot out.
Jasmine Granter was outstanding throughout the match pulling off some brilliant saves via deflections and numerous one on ones.
The girls showed great character in coming back from two down and almost winning the game at the death!
