Sports Report - Netball Fixture
Tonight the year 7 and 8 netball teams travelled to King Alfred’s for a very cold netball fixture. Spirits were high from the start, with the year 7s showing true sportsmanship in their selfless lending of a player to the year 8 squad who were let down at the last minute.
The year 7s played exceptionally well with lots of of encouragement and enthusiasm throughout. From the start they showed off their strong, powerful passing, with Paige and Ava dominating the centre court. Grace worked hard on creating spaces with her tight marker close by at all times and Freya made the most of all opportunities in the D with neat shots succeeding more often than not. Ava also contributed highly to the score board with her confident shooting from some distance away. An early lead of 7-0 after the first quarter gave the girls confidence and team moral was high. This result was repeated with a second dominating quarter to put us at a 15-1 lead by half time. At this point we chose to rearrange our formation, testing the individual skills and transferability of players as all members of the team had an opportunity to play out of their preferred position. This didn’t hold back the girls effort levels and Olivia and Maddie continued making their speedy interceptions to regain possession when the play overturned.
Final score was a well deserved 23-2. Squad consisting of F Jones, E Saunders, M Rowley, A Scobie, P Taylor, A Ghio, G Knight, O Roberts
The year 8s arrived to the fixture with hopes held high and burst straight into the first quarter with Mia making some accurate decisions on her centre passes. With the support of Connie and Lauren we quickly saw the score change in our favour. By half time we were 7-0 up. Things plateaued for a while with regards to goals and King Alfred’s didn’t allow us to become complacent. We couldn’t let our guard down for a second due to their constant attack but thankfully with Tiffany’s amazing efforts and jumping for interceptions (albeit sometimes batting the ball way in any direction rather than catching it) she saved us by not allowing the ball in to our defending D on numerous occasions.
Despite missing some players, we had a comfortable final score of 9-1. Squad consisted of L Hill, C Gray, M Edwards, T Onojaife, K Derbyshire, M Riddle
