Sports Report - Sedgemoor Cross-Country

This afternoon I took a select band of students to the area championships at Brymore gaining some fantastic results

The first race saw Ellis Gannicott and Josh White from Year 7 take part in their first competition and both worked hard to stay with the lead group. Both boys ran good races with Ellis finishing 13th and Josh 14th out of a competition with 50+ competitors. The boys both qualified in the top 20 needed to go and represent the Area in the next stage early next year.

The next race was the Year 8/9 boys race which had Ethan Porter, Lewis Jennings, Vince Marsh, Louis Caldwell and Sam Shirvington taking part. This race was definitely the one with the highest quality as after the first lap the field were tightly bunched. Ethan Porter broke away with the leading bunch to finish in a fantastic 6th position qualifying as an area representative for the third year running. Lewis Jennings (21st), Vince Marsh (22nd), Louis Caldwell (26th) and Sam Shirvington (30th) all just missed out on the top 20 but put in great efforts.

Issy Brown then took up the challenge of the Year 8/9 Girls race and put in a great effort running hard and keeping up a consistent pace to finish 13th against mostly older students. This enables her to represent the area in January. Well done Issy!!

The last race of the day saw Leo Stockham and Ashley Francis take up the challenge in the Senior boys race (Year 10,11 and 12). From the start Leo piled on the pressure on the other boys as he set a fast pace that the others struggled to keep up with. Having broken the field Leo went head to head with a Year 11 Brymore student before racing clear to win by a clear 60m. Ashley Francis kept up with the second group and finished with a fine sprint to gain an improved 6th place. Well done to both lads who qualify to represent the area in January.

Full credit and praise must go to Leo who has taken his running more seriously this year training at Millfield twice a week.

Well done to all involved.
