Sports Report - U13 Girls Cricket

This afternoon the u13 girls cricket team took on Hugh Sexeys in the first round of the county cup. After a mix up on their behalf and them being at Haygrove at 3.50 we eventually got underway at 4.10.

Sexeys batted first and took a real liking to some wayward bowling from Chilton racing along at over 10 an over. All of the girls showed promise Paige Taylor clean bowled one batter whilst Ava Scobie bowled quickly and accurately without much reward. Ruby Nash and Alice Pittey bowled some nice deliveries before Jazz closed the innings with a wicket, a sky-er well caught by Fern Hill high above her head. Sexeys closed on 79-2.

The girls who didn’t bowl opened the batting in an effort to give everyone a chance. So Freya Jones and Fern opened up and immediately ran well between the wickets giving the team a solid start. Freya was eventually caught behind, Ebony Sanders played some nice shots before being bowled. Ava ran to the crease in excitement to bat and smashed the ball to an aggressive 14 before being caught behind. Fern eventually retired on 16 batting superbly whilst afterwards admitting ‘I was literally shaking every ball, I was so nervous!’. It was left to Paige Taylor and captain Alice Pittey to see it home with some aggressive hitting and running between the wickets to win with 4 balls to spare.
