Sports Report - U13 Girls Football
Today the u13 girls’ football team travelled to Yeovil to play in a county wide tournament run by the football club. In full cry on the bus it was clear the girls were excited, though the Christmas songs in mid November were a touch too far.
The B team comprising of three year 7s battled hard in an extremely strong group, against some excellent footballers from schools all around the county. To their credit they continued to battle hard and improved towards the end of the tournament and became harder to beat. F Scobie was superb in goal, P Taylor worked hard and A Pittey was superb also.
The A team again worked hard after a fairly sloppy start to rectify some some defending to make themselves more difficult to beat. Despite dominating the first game and leading most of it due to a cracking strike from A Gillingham equalised in the last seconds due to the defence switching off.
In most of the other games the girls were edged out 1-0 which was a shame considering most of their efforts. In the final game L Hill scored a cracking right foot finish, a huge defensive effort from the girls was finally undone in the last seconds as the defence switched off to allow a cross and a tap in at the back post. F Hill, C Lazowski worked tirelessly throughout and Alesha Hewart improved greatly as did L Hill from listening to feedback.
To their credit the girls from both sides never gave in and despite playing some very good sides put in some good performances. A lot was learned from this experience and the girls are hungry to improve, which is great to see.
The bus back was just as vocal as the journey up!
