Sports Report - U13 girls cricket
Yesterday the U13 girls team hosted Courtfields in the first round of the county cup. It was decided that we would play best of three to go through as this would give the girls great experience going forward.
Chilton won the toss and bowled first. Captain Ava Scobie opened the bowling with Bethan Hambly and both bowled tidily. Some wides from other bowlers mixed with some good batting meant Courtfields posted a reasonable score of 59-4 from their 6 overs despite Hambly taking two wickets in her last over.
In reply Chilton started with Hambly and Freya Jones who ran between the wickets superbly. Freya retired as did Hambly on 15 as Chilton won with an over to spare.
The second game saw Chilton field first again and Scobie and Paige Taylor opened the bowling with Taylor bowling very accurately in her own unique way really helping the team to a tight start. The bowling was shared around this time to give everybody a chance and this meant the extras count soared as wides were common. Courtfields ran better between the wickets and posted 68-4 from their 6 overs.
With Hambly Scobie and Ophelia Curd opened the batting but Curd soon departed Jones joined Scobie and they batted brilliantly to get the scoreboard moving quickly. Wickets fell and Katie Escott and Taylor batted well to see the team home with an over to spare.
The girls are through to the next round, as are the U15s, great results for both.
