Sports Report - U13 girls cricket
Tonight the U13 girl cricketers travelled to Castle school to play in the first round of the county cup.
Castle played Kingsmead in the first match and won comfortably.
We played Kingsmead in the second game and batted first after losing the toss. Captain Bethan Hambly was dismissed early on and this clearly shook the middle order as some inexperienced running left the team with 3 run outs. Katie Escott batted through for 13 not out and Natalya Smith batted superbly with her and with some wides and no balls mixed in, managed to up the score to 76 from the 6 overs.
In reply Kingsmead got off to a steady start from some wayward bowling. Ophelia Curd produced an over that went for only four runs as she took a good caught and bowled and then a run out (a brilliant side handed throw direct to the stumps from Chloe-Ann Maidment) from the next ball meant this over put Chilton in control of the game. Captain Hambly bowled the last over superbly to seal the game by 22 runs.
Next up was effectively a final vs Castle. Chilton opted to bowl first and faced a well drilled Castle unit. Runs flowed through aggressive running and inexperienced fielding. Castle ended up with 76 from their 6 overs.
A nightmare start saw Chloe and Katie Escott our in consecutive balls in the first over. Bethan batted superbly to up the score somewhat. She received great support from Jayla Smith who scored an aggressive 11 including a six straight down the ground, an awesome shot. Bethan retired and then came back into bat as Maddie Dryland-Ward was dismissed. Holly Daly struck a lovely four down the ground and Bethan finished on an excellent 18 not out as Chilton we’re short by 18 runs.
The girls did well with limited training and half of the team making their debuts in cricket. Great to see and hopefully they continue to work at their games.
