Sports Report - U15 Girls Cricket - County Finals
Yesterday the girls travelled to Weston to play in County Finals.
Castle were up first and some very tense and nervous bowling meant they got off to a flyer, dispatching the ball powerfully to all parts. Castle scored 83-4 from their 7 overs. In reply, some nervy batting meant we were never really in contention as Castle bowled steadily to win by 40 runs.
In the second game against Hayesfield, the bowling eased up somewhat and Chilton were in control. Paige, Shobbrook, Scobie and Zuza all bowling tight overs. However a County cricketer came out and upped the tempo scoring a quickfire 20 to propel them to a good score of 74 from 7 overs. In reply the batting belief was better but still a little restrained as we got to 46 from our 7 overs.
The last game saw us play Holyrood and the girls bowled really well, finally hitting good areas and looking a little less tense! First ball of the game Jess Shobbrook took an excellent caught and bowled above her head one handed. Paige again bowled well as did Lowe and Rawle. Holyrood had a late rally and ended on 77 from their 7 overs. In reply Chilton finally freed themselves up and whacked the ball to the boundary as I know they can. Palfrey and Mizon both hitting a six and numerous fours. Mizon went onto retire on 20, full of boundaries and aggressive running between the wickets. Lowe and Shobbrook saw us over the line to win a thriller with 4 balls to spare.
The girls finished 3rd overall in the county and this is testament to their training and dedication in some of the team's last game. Work to be done though to ensure our teams believe in themselves and their skill sets from the outset.
