Sports Report - U15 Girls Rugby

Today a keen if slightly nervous group of U15 girls travelled to Millfield for a rugby training day. The morning was taken up by the girls working on five different carousel activities mainly to do with tackling, including using a big gym ball to tackle which was highly amusing to watch!

The girls really enjoyed it and it was really pleasing to have some of the coaches come to say how impressed they were with certain girls and another teacher commenting on Lemuella Masunda's talents.

After this representatives from local rugby clubs came and dished out their club tops for the girls to wear. Chilton obviously falling under Bridgwater and Albion's catchment. The girls played two games against North Dorset and Chard. North Dorset had a coupe of strong runners who found some gaps in the girls' defences but they had no answer for the power and pace of Tiffany Onojaife and Lemuella Masunda who ran in numerous trys to win the match.

In the second match against an experienced Chard side it was try line to try line at points. Tiffany and Lemmie were again a realy force but Jodi Head recovered from a back spasm to really add value to the power of Chilton as she made great ground several times and managed to get over the try line twice. Phoebe Hill grew in confidence and carried the ball well as did Kaiti Williams and Charlotte Halley. Morgan Palfrey made some great runs and eventually got over the line herself before Charlotte Lazowski almost got over the whitewash before the ball was passed back to Jazz Forsey to evade three tackles to score her first ever try to seal a fine win.

The B and A coach was full of praise for our girls. It is now hoped that at least four of them will go training tomorrow evening as result of this. He is desperate to have them there, there is some real talent that should be playing club rugby. It was really nice to receive a message from him this evening stating 'What a fantastic day, you have a brilliant bunch of girls, one proud teacher I hope' I certainly am, they were superb.

A superb day, now to get them playing club rugby! Please have conversations with them in school, on break duty or in lessons, they were great.
