Sports Report - U15 girls cricket

Tonight the girls travelled to Castle School to play some indoor cricket.

In the first game we played Holyrood and batted first due to skipper Grace Lowe losing the toss. Jodi Head was bowled early on for no score. This then brought Morgen Palfrey to the crease to join Millie Rawle. The pair batted brilliantly being very aggressive with their running between the wickets mixed with the odd 6. Both retired on 15 and Zoe Mizon came out and carried on the aggressive running between the wickets in getting to a retirement as we finished on 65-2 after our 5 overs.

In reply Holyrood struck the ball nicely but didn’t fancy running too much. Charlotte Marshall turned the screw with a very economical over, she took a wicket with her first ball. Grace Lowe bowled with great control and Morgen showed good control to bowl straight and see home the victory and seal a final spot.

It was to be Castle in the final and again Grace lost the toss and we batted first. It was not a great start...Head and Rawle were run out cheaply and Palfrey did not hang around too much longer. After the departure of Shobbrook it was left to Mizon and Lowe to rebuild the innings and they batted well. Mizon retired on 15 and Lowe, Marshall and Kamin were dismissed cheaply which meant Mizon came back as ‘last (wo)man standing’ she carried on where she left off, even diving into her crease on her knees to ensure she made the run, unfortunately she burned a hole in her leggings and this of course, was my fault..! She ended up on 23 not out and batted superbly with our total 55-7 from 5 overs.

In reply our bowling was wayward unlike the semi and Castle capitalised on this with some intelligent running and cashing in on wides. All of the girls tried hard but it was not meant to be as Castle won with an over to spare.

The girls were a credit to the school and the SCB coach remarked how much they had improved as a group, which was nice.

Personal highlights were:

Morgen Palfrey running into the stumps and clattering them everywhere.

Zoe Mizon sliding into the crease to secure her runs, then blaming me for the burn in her new leggings!

Captain Lowe giving three cheers at the end of the Chilton School!
