Sports Report - U16 Girls Football

Tonight saw the U16s take on BCA in the Sedgemoor area final.

Chilton started slowly and BCA dominated possession in the first 10 minutes. They soon took the lead when a speculative shot found its way into the bottom corner passed year 8 debutant Holly Daly in goal. BCA continued to dominate but now Chilton has warmed up a bit on a very chilly evening and started to hustle more across the pitch but BCA soon took a two goal lead as an attempted defensive clearance found its way to a striker who slotted into an empty net. From here it looked very difficult to get back into the game but a great break from Ferne Hill who passed to Morgen Palfrey’s feet on the edge of the area, who then looked up and laid the ball off to captain Ewelina T who took one touch from a bouncing ball and smashed a screamer into the side netting from 20 yards. It was an unbelievable hit that everybody applauded, even Mr Warren wearing a Chilton hoody and a BCA coat! 2-1 at half time.

The second half saw Chilton play some aggressive football, winning challenges and driving towards goal. Chances came and went with the ball not quite falling or a poor touch meaning BCA could clear their lines. With 6 minutes to go a great break and cross from Lemmie Masunda to Ferne Hill who dummied/shot but missed the ball but Morgen Palfrey was there to sweep the ball home to make it 2-2.

BCA poured forward but Abi J and Charlotte Lazowski were superb in their defence and Holly Daly commanded her penalty area superbly to deny BCA.

With 2 minutes to go, a poor kick from the goalkeeper found Ferne Hill who knocked the ball out to her right and struck a beautiful shot into the bottom left corner to make it 3-2. In some added time(!) Chilton defended brilliantly, Jodi Head winning numerous tackles and clearances meant Chilton hung on for a brilliant victory!

The girls in the second half were superb, a joint player of the match award goes to Ewelina and Charlotte. Ewelina did not stop running all game and scored a screamer but Charlotte dominated in defence all game and was superb.
