Sports Report - U16 Girls Football

The year 11 girls took on Haygrove and BCA this evening on our home (astro) turf. Playing against Haygrove first the girls played well terrible conditions, the heavy winds making particularly difficult and a fast and zippy surface making it even harder to play good football. Zoe Mizon found herself one on one with the keeper but saw her effort saved in a bright moment of football. The defence of Brind and Austin coped admirably with Haygrove’s threats and Jasmine ‘the cat’ Granter was virtually a spectator. At half time the score was 0-0.

With a few changes Chilton played some lovely football and worked hard in the middle of the pitch. Eventually Nadine found space and drove towards the goal and unleashed a sweet left footed strike which the keeper could not deal with. It was just reward for the dominance of the game. Eventually Chilton defended two corners to seal a good win 1-0.

Haygrove beat BCA in the second game via a ludicrous deflection which meant Chilton needed a win or a draw to win the round of matches.

With the wind getting worse Chilton played some good football on the floor against a technically good BCA side. With a slight shuffle in personnel the girls battled hard. Rossiter and Ewelina in year 8 worked hard in an unusual defensive role to ensure BCA were limited to long shots. Mizon worked tirelessly upfront and almost got the breakthrough but then moments later found space and Austin fizzed a ball out wide and on the angle Mizon struck a fierce shot in the bottom corner.

In the second half Grace Lowe, Brind and Ewelina were solid at the back and were ably supported by Millie Rawle, Maddie Hellard and Austin. In a scrappy affair Chilton were defending well and supporting each other superbly to hang onto the lead. With 10 seconds to go BCA piled forward and had a speculative shot that Granter threw towards her own goal line and had to dive on the ball as the opposing striker tangled with her, however the whole ball had not crossed the line and Chilton held on for their second win 1-0.

A great effort from all in tough conditions.
