Sports Report - Year 10/11 Rugby Match vs Haygrove

With the game about to kick off. Spirits were high! Chilton started the game off really well receiving kick off we took control of the game. B Cooper, H Hodge making big barn storming runs. Big C Brunskill also making inroads around the break down area. But with some great defence from the Haygrove team it was still at deadlock.

Chilton soon broke the deadlock with a fantastic solo effort from C Brunskill. Crashing over from 15 meters out. Conversion was missed by B copper making the score 5-0.

Haygrove returned the kick and within moments P Warren went over for Chilton a second try making the score 10-0.

It was soon noticeable that Chilton wasn’t taking this game lightly and ran end to end to beat their local rivals. With some outstanding tackle, big ball carries from both teams it was a physical encounter. With some great play of attacking Rugby Chilton went over for their 3rd Try when P Warren crossed for his second making the score 15-0 at half time.

It look obvious that Haygrove was annoyed by this score line. With supporters saying “this had been Haygrove's hardest game this year” it was certain that Haygrove would come back strong.

In quick response to kick off Haygrove scored two tries to make the score 14-15. It was a game of two half’s for the Chilton team. With some missed tackles as well as not retaining the ball as well as we did in the first half it was going to be a tough finish.

With the boys struggling with injuries, blood and also tired legs out there Haygrove went over for a 3rd Try and a successful conversion made the score 19-15.

Chilton kept their fight and spirit to the end and attempted to clinch a final try, in order to win the game. We were so close when B Cooper went through the middle of the pitch only to be tackled short. Having knocked the ball on it was the last play of the game for Haygrove who kicked the Ball dead.

Final score;

Haygrove 19 - Chilton 15.

Thank you to staff and students who came to watch and also parents who made the effort to come and support some local and exciting school rugby.
