Sports Report - Year 10 Rugby
The year 10 boys travelled to Brymore knowing a win for either team would seal a final place. Playing with the wind Chilton dominated the early exchanges and forced Brymore deep into their own half. The scrum and lineout went well and from a lineout C Brunskill broke away to score in the corner. Chilton continued to press and were soon pressing forward as J Baker, C O'Keefe and T Luke linked well before H Hodge barged over from close range to double the lead. Brymore tackled well and stopped Chilton from increasing the lead until just before half-time as B Cooper chased his kick ahead to score, well converted by R Henderson to give Chilton a 17 point lead at the break.
The 2nd half saw Chilton under increased pressure as Brymore used the wind well to pin Chilton in their own 22. From broken play Brymore span the ball wide to score a converted try. Brymore became more aggressive in the forwards and stole lots of ball holding up mauls and turning over rucks . From a scrum Brymore broke to score a try in the corner which reduced the arrears to 5. The pressure was firmly on and despite some good tackles from H Huett, C O'Keefe and J Salter Brymore continued to push Chilton back. From a scrum the number 8 from Brymore broke away to score a try in the corner which was well converted to give them a 2 point lead. This stirred Chilton into action with the final 5 minutes were played in the Brymore 22. Good runs from B Cooper and C Brunskill saw Chilton go close however their opponents held out for a narrow victory.
The boys have enjoyed a successful season but narrowly missed out on a finals place. Man of the match went to H Huett for a fine defensive display whilst C O'Keefe once again impressed.
