Sports Report - Year 11 Football at Broadoak
Tonight the year 11s took on a strong Broadoak team in the County Cup first round. In the early exchanges it was clear that Broadoak were more aggressive and hungrier for the ball than Chilton were and this led to wave after wave of purple attacks. Eventually the ball bounced fortunately to their striker who was given time to turn, compose himself and then shoot.
Eventually Chilton got the ball down and started to compete for loose balls and had two great opportunities to score but CJ Lee could not convert on his favoured foot. In a much more even battle, it ended 1-0 at half time.
In the second half it became much more of the same from both sides really as it began to heat up a little and at times resembled a UFC bout that would have got Mr Webb rather excited. Broadoak dominated possession for large periods but Chilton looked threatening on the counter attack and were hanging on. A throw in by the corner flag however managed to bounce in the six yard box untouched and was nodded home at the back post to make it 2-0. It was criminal that the ball travelled that distance and wasn’t dealt with by anybody.
That said, Chilton kept piling forward and had some good opportunities. Brooklyn hit the bar with a great curling effort to which Lucas Clark smashed home the rebound only to be adjudged offside. Lucas had a header smartly saved by the keeper and also had a lobbed effort cleared off the line also. Broadoak scored a late third to end the game 3-0 winners despite going down to 10 men for the last few minutes.
Lots for the boys to work on before the Sedgemoor league kicks off in which they did really well last year.
