Sports Report - Year 11 Rugby

The Year 11 boys hosted Brymore this evening and put in a hard working effort against strong opposition. The early play from both teams was very expansive with both teams looking to move the ball wide. The strong running of J Baker and C Brunskill caused Brymore problems as Chilton looked to attack from deep. Brymore scored first and soon added a second to take a 10-0 lead, however with the scrum and lineout functioning well the boys continued to have lots of possession. From a scrum R Mears fed J salter who stepped a defender and scored under the posts to make the score 7-10. Brymore came straight back and scored a fine try after a lengthy spell of possession to make the half-time score 15-7 to the visitors.

The 2nd half saw the game continue to be fast and furious with both teams tackling well. Brymore extended their lead to 20-7 as they crashed over from a scrum. Chilton didn't give up and came storming back as firstly C Brunskill rumbled over taking all before him to reduce the visitors lead to 8 points. With new confidence the boys kept pouring forward and a fine run from J Baker saw him score from close range and  J Salter kick the conversion to make it 19-20. The game became an end to end battle as both teams looked to win the game. With both team tiring and Chilton camped in the Brymore half the Brymore centre intercepted a wide pass and race the length of the pitch to give the visitors an 8 point lead. Despite their best efforts the boys couldn't make the decisive break as Brymore ran out 27-19 winners in a well contested fixture.

In a fine all-round team performance T Luke, J Baker, T Higgins and R James were impressive once again whilst L Coles, C Frost and A Francis combined well in the backs. Man of the match went to H Hodge who was brilliant at the break down and carried the ball with great power and pace.
