Sports Report - Year 7 Boys Rugby
The Year 7 boys rugby team entertained local rivals Haygrove this evening and put in a magnificent effort against strong opponents. Playing three 15 minute sections the game started at a frantic pace with a big Haygrove streaking away to score a quick try. Chilton hit back immediately as A Higgins ran round his marker to score after a fine pass by K Escott. P Gogolin and W Stevens were making good metres with their rampaging runs whilst L Redwood and D Warren were excellent at the break down securing good possession. Chilton took the lead when O Manchip ran in from a scrum using his speed to make use of the space on the blindside. Just before the interval the boys extended the lead as J Deane and D Warren combined to set O Manchip free to take a 3-1 lead into the break.
The next section saw Haygrove come out all guns firing and they ran in two quick trys to even the scores. After a brief chat amongst themselves the intention to tackle harder and be more organised shone through. A fine move involving Erimus and A Palmer saw A Higgins evade the last defender and score with ease. From the resulting kick off O Manchip caught the ball ran down the wing and dummied the last defender to give the boys a 5-3 lead at the break.
The last section saw Chilton dominate possession and as a result they took the sting out of Haygrove who started to fall off tackles. From a good run by the powerful P Gogolin the ball was spun wide for K Escott to cut back inside and score well. The boys were playing brilliantly now and the off-loading game cut Haygrove apart as Erimus stormed over from close range. With the last play of the game it was fitting that O Manchip sealed the win as an exchange of passes with D Warren and A Palmer saw him wriggle free to score a fine try to seal an 8-3 win.
The boys can be extremely proud of their efforts and can look forward to their final festival in the New Year knowing that they area strong outfit. In a great all-round performance man of the match went to O Manchip whilst special mention must go to L Redwood and D Warren who rucked superbly.
