Sports Report - Year 7 Cricket

Tonight the year 7s played their first hard ball cricket match against Haygrove at the home of cricket Bridgwater Cricket Club. Having lost the toss  Haygrove opted to bat first and got off to a blistering start dispatching some loose bowling. The introduction of Hambly slowed things down slightly and last minute fill in O Harvey took 2 wickets with good catches from J Etheridge-Ryan meant the score slowed down.

O Dyer ran out dangerman on 21 with a superb direct hit from mid off and V Marsh got in on the act with a wicket and Hambly bowled the opener to really get Chilton back in the game. Haygrove finishing on 87-6 after 15 overs, a par score.

In reply Chilton started cautiously with Hambly and Howes opening up against some tight bowling. A needless run out cost Howes his wicket and suddenly nobody could stay with Hambly as wickets tumbled. I James struck a lovely 4 before being trapped lbw. B Cresswell played well in a supporting role before getting out caught. Hambly started to cut loose and hit a beautiful six over cow corner and started to manipulate the game situation and get close to a win. He found a perfect partner in J Gingell who hit 6 and led a charmed life but remained not out with Hambly to see the boys home to a brilliant victory.

Special mention to Harrison who showed great maturity and a great cricket brain to control the game so well with so much pressure on him.

A great win for the boys!
