Sports Report - Year 7 Rugby 3 Game Match Report
It was finally time the for the year 7 rugby team to take centre stage as they embarked on the first tournament hosted by Haygrove School. After many hours training in lessons over the last three weeks and in after school coaching sessions the boys have begun to gel as a team.
The format of the event was four teams Blake, Brymore, Haygrove and Chilton in half pitch 12 aside mitches lasting 14 minutes. Our first game was against Blake and it was tense start, so much so that Ashley H had a tooth (First Molar) simply fall out just as the first game was starting (a good omen?). All the boys put in the tackles early and they made them count, Ethan C-D was one such player keeping Blake at bay. After no scores from both teams in the first half but in the second Chilton started to become more assertive, running straighter and taking Blake head on, Ollie M broke their defensive line scoring our first try. This spurred on Ashley H to score a second soon after.
Full Time Chilton 10 – 0 Blake
Our second game was against Brymore, who were a significantly larger team than our own. However, their big strike runner (not afraid to run straight into contact) was put down hard by Filip G. After that point Brymore were not as confident going into contact and their handling errors increased which Chilton capitalised on in the form of Ollie M finding the gap to score after a quick turn over. In the second half more Chilton players were leading the charge with Liam S, Dan W and William B making significant ground. After the whole teams hard work wearing down Brymore and gaining more ground Ashley H score two more tries to finish the game.

Our final game was against our hosts Haygrove. They had the largest squad being the host team and our boys had running their legs off. BUT! With our strongest effort out of the three games we defended against our host’s attacks for most of the first half, they came within a metre of our try line on many occasions but we held them off. First Half 0 – 0
We started the second taking the fight for territory to them, making ground with multiple phases of play. The boys were eager to take the lead and Filip did just such minutes in , some dynamic side steps and he was over the line (5-0). A Haygrove restart and they were on the attack for the final time. However, a mistimed pass fell short of its target and Chilton took possession. Some quick passes and the ball came to Dan W, with five metres out he sold a fantastic dummy leading two haygrove players briefly down the garden and he was over the line. Try!
