Sports Report - Year 8 Boys Cricket
The Year 8 Boys travelled to local rivals Haygrove knowing that a win would give them a chance of winning the Area Cricket league this season. Having won the toss Chilton asked Haygrove to bat first looking to restrict them. K Lewis and M Hucker started well showing good accuracy and control, the introduction of L Birch and H Hambly continued to stop Haygrove accelerating the scoring rate as H Hambly bowled the dangerous Langleys for 18. Z Kearle came onto bowl and was rewarded with a wicket in his first over well caught by K Lewis. A further wicket from K Lewis kept Haygrove in check as they stuttered to 87 for 3 from their allocated 15 overs. In the field A Date, R Mears and J Baker behind the stumps impressed with their attitude.
In reply Chilton soon lost M Hucker who ran himself out for 1 in the first over. H Hambly joined K Lewis and they decided to attack hitting boundaries to all parts of the ground as the score raced to 44 after 5 overs. A lapse of concentration from K Lewis saw him out for a fine 18 and K Harris was out next ball bowled to leave Chilton 47 for 3. In strolled J Neal (12)to show the boys how to bat sensibly alongside H Hambly (30) they knocked off the required runs without alarm winning with 3 overs remaining.
In another good team performance the boys can look forward to further fixtures in the league and chance to shine competitions.
Man of the match went to H Hambly for an entertaining batting effort.
