Sports Report - Year 8 Football vs Millfield
The year 8 boys' football team entertained Millfield this evening in the first round of the County Cup. In a hard fought first half Chilton defended well, limiting Millfield to only half chances despite their dominance in possession. The newly formed defence of Gingell, Marsh, Jennings and Cresswell worked hard as a unit and this was pleasing to see.
A triple substitution at half time changed the clientele in some key positions and added much needed pace in our attack. With referee Chadwick keeping the game flowing nicely, the team grew in confidence and started to create some chances and put Millfield on the back foot somewhat. A Higgins playing a year above himself gave the side some aggression upfront and created some panic amongst their backline creating some half chances. With Chilton dominating the play, Millfield gained a corner after a good save from Travis Knapp in goal. Unfortunately they scored a header at the near post with 8 minutes to go. The team then proceeded to throw everything at Millfield in the last few minutes and had some great chances to score but came up short in the end.
The team can be very happy with their efforts, teamwork and determination and were perhaps unlucky not to take it to penalties in the fading light but this should be a huge confidence boost when we play in the Sedgemoor area league and cup.
