Sports Report - Year 8 football

Tonight the year 8 boys football team travelled to KAS on their astro turf for an 11 a side football match.

The game was an even and scrappy contest to start with both midfields trying to get a hold of a bouncy surface. KAS would probably have had the better of the chances in particular a thunderous right footed shot that smashed the post and Bruno Silva making his debut in goal for the side saved well from the rebound after pressure from captain Vince Marsh. Owen Mountain produced a good save and Ashley Higgins was pulled back by their defender when appearing to be in on goal as two big chances that weren't taken.

However a  throw in mid way inside our own half was telegraphed to their striker who charged down Harrison Hambly and found himself through on goal and calmly finished in the bottom corner to score a soft goal. A minute later a speculative shot was punched by Silva straight to their striker who found himself one on one with him and despite Marsh's best efforts to get back he deflected a wide shot just into the bottom corner. Two sloppy goals in two minutes. 2-0 half time.

The boys started the second half brightly and really took the ball to KAS and met their physical play with equal aggression. Oliver Manchip made his debut in this age group and made a huge difference to the team with his pace and power. KAS rarely troubled the Chilton goal with Silva a spectator. Higgins and Mountain continued to cause trouble now with Hambly able to get on the ball and play through balls. Jack Francis went through on goal only to be pulled back by the collar of his shirt and the referee reduced KAS to 10 men. Higgins' persistence down the left set up a chance for Francis to side foot home and create pressure in the last 12 minutes. Unfortunately despite some half chances the boys could not find the break through to get a well deserved draw or perhaps even a win.
