Sports Report - Year 8 girls hockey
Tuesday saw the 3rd festival of the season for our yr 8 girls hockey squad, this time hosted by King Alfreds. The girls (somewhat depleted in no. ) played in great spirit, determined to keep our winning streak (all games won so far this season!).
The first game saw all players gradually get into the game. Kiera Mc Cullum led by example, tackling hard and determinedly fighting back if kAS got possession. Several close misses were frustrating initially for all the attackers but eventually the girls' superior skill resulted in 3 goals -one each for Lily Eldredge, Ava Scobie and Paige Taylor.
The game v Haygrove was to need more concentration and quicker reactions if the Chilton girls were to outwit the Haygrove squad, many of whom have also been attending Bridgwater Hockey Club coaching sessions. It took a couple of minutes and a little persuasion from Mrs Hedaux to stop the gossipping on the pitch, before the girls made headway into the attacking circle. Lots of strong defence from the Haygrove girls meant this was a tough battle. Good stickwork developed rather than just wildly slapping at the ball and Chilton were able to eliminate the defenders. unfortunately the final shots let us down and at full time although Chilton had had much of the possession we had not scored. However, our defence had held firm with Ebony Sanders and Amelia Curtis outstanding in defence. They showed mature and clever positioning and just amazing tackling to stop even the Haygrove players from getting into the D.. so a 0-0 result means the girls are still unbeaten and have their eye on a place in the county finals In Dec!!
Please give them a pat on the back. It is no surprise that the players and teams that attend practice most are becoming the most competitive and skilful!! Well done
