Sports Report - Year 9 Boys Football

Last evening our Year 9 boys team travelled to Blake for their second league game of the season. They game started at a frantic pace with bot teams looking to move the ball quickly however it was clear to see that the Blake side were significantly bigger and more physical in their play compared to previous challenges. With F Chowdury and H Hurford strong at the back Chilton looked to play their passing style of play throughout. L Jennings and M Hucker battled hard whilst O Richardson looked to release L Birch and L Wilson in attack. A Date and J Rollings showed lots of ability in wide areas as they got past opponents at ease to put in good crosses. Despite lots of good possession and shooting opportunities Chilton failed to score as L Birch hit the bar, whilst O Richardson and L Wilson had shots well saved by the Blake keeper.

The 2nd half proved more difficult as a change in tactics from Blake saw them look to break quickly using the long ball over the top to their three speedy and powerful forwards. Chilton were unable to handle the pressure and fell behind to a shot from the edge of the box with gave J Legg no chance. Blake gained confidence and began to pressure the boys into giving the ball away in midfield and from a loose pass Blake gained possession and crossed into the box where a striker powered a header into the goal. Chilton never gave up and the introduction of O Davey, S Pope and J Neal gave the team some much needed energy. Chilton went close at O Richardson and L Birch had shots blocked when in good positions whilst L Wilson twice had efforts saved by the home keeper. Despite their best efforts Blake ran out 2-0 winners as the boys just couldn't find their best in front of goal.

The boys will be looking to bounce back in their next game against King Alfred's. In a good game against tough opposition O Richardson and F Chowdury shone however man of the match went to H Hurford who was solid at the back against powerful opposition.
