Sports Report - Year 9 Boys Football
The year 9 boys travelled to local rivals Haygrove for their first league game of the season looking to make a positive start. The game was pretty evenly balanced as Chilton's defence of K Lewis, F Chowdury and O Davey defended well clearing their lines well. The boys took the lead when good forward play saw L Wilson hit a shot from the edge of the box which the keeper spilled into the path of the quick to pounce L Birch to make it 1-0. In midfield L Jennings, O Richardson and M Hucker played some nice one touch football in difficult conditions to keep possession of the ball.
The second half saw a bigger and more physical Haygrove team look to play the long ball and keep Chilton deep in their own half. The pressure paid off as a long ball found a Haygrove striker who finished well past J Legg to make it all square. At this point the boys were losing the physical battle and struggled to get out of their own half and from a corner a Haygrove player sneaked in at the back post to give them the lead. The introduction of S Pope and A Date meant the boys kept going and started to play at a higher tempo moving the ball quickly as K Lewis, O Richardson and L Wilson combined to win a corner on the right side. From a well directed corner super sub J Neal distracted the home defence and touched the ball onto L Birch who tapped home at the back post to make the final score 2-2.
In an evenly contested game Chilton did well in tricky conditions and can look forward to the season ahead with confidence.
Special mention must go to J Legg who made one fantastic save and H Hurford who cleared his lines well under pressure, however man f the match went to L Wilson who worked tirelessly up front.
