Sports Report - Year 9 Boys Rugby
The Year 9 Boys Rugby squad entertained King Alfred's (KAS) last night and came away with a strong 27-19 victory against a much bigger side. Chilton started in fine fashion as J Baker, A Date and E Schofield and L Powell scored first half trys. K Lewis, J Rollings, A Date and J Stephenson were a real threat with the ball as their running lines set up numerous try scoring opportunities. Captain J Baker led from the front alongside E Schofield, P Osguthorpe and L Palmer in winning the ruck area against a more physically imposing opposition.
The 2nd half saw KAS fight back strongly with a number of positional changes. Chilton tackled brilliantly but switched off mentally allowing KAS to score two quick trys to reduce the arrears to 20-12. The boys stormed back into action and were denied by some desperate KAS tackling close to the line. From a penalty ten metres out E Schofield dummied a pass and scored under the posts to make it 27-12. With only minutes remaining KAS got a late consolation as despite good tackles from B Cresswell and J Rollings they scored under the posts to make the final score 27-19 to Chilton.
The boys would like to thank D Best, I James and B Cresswell from Year 8 who stepped up at the last minute to help out. All 3 put in fine performances with B Creswell's tackling under pressure impressing all.
