Sports Report - Year 9 Boys Rugby - WINNERS!!

This evening our Year 9 Boys Rugby team played Haygrove in the final of the Sedgemoor Area competition. They began setting up camp in the Haygrove half of the pitch creating pressure which resulted in E Krupovic charging down a kick and scoring the first try. After a kick to the corner the forwards set up a well drilled lineout resulting in D Warren diving over the line to make it 10-0. Chilton continued to dominate possession however a handling error lead to Haygrove steeling the ball and scoring in the corner to reduce the deficit to 10-5. Some good tackling from all the players held Haygrove at bay shortly before the break to ensure the boys led 10-5 at half-time.

The second half began with Haygrove making ground with their forwards and this pressure saw them take the lead  12-10 as they stormed over the line to score a converted try. Chilton rallied immediately as they went on the attack and after good work by the forwards A Hodge set O Manchip free to score in the left corner. The boys grew in confidence making strong tackles and running hard with the ball. With the lineout working perfectly and with O Manchip kicking deep into the Haygrove half they pinned them in. From a long spell of possession the ball moved wide and O Manchip was on hand once again to dive over from close range to make it 20-12. The boys continued to put their bodies on the line in a physical battle where Haygrove never gave up. Some quick thinking at a scrum saw A Hodge find O Manchip on the blind side and he evaded several tackles to complete his own hat-trick and increase the lead to 25-12. to their credit Haygrove kept pushing hard and were rewarded with a try with the last play of the game to make the final score 25-19 to Chilton.

In a great game of Rugby both teams deserve great credit for their efforts in a highly entertaining contest. For the Year 9 boys this was just reward for their hard work at training where they regularly turned up twice a week.

Tomorrow their will be some boys with tired/sore bodies in school, please give them some TLC and congratulate them on their success as they fully deserve it. Special mention must go to K Escott, L Redwood and D McCluckie who were not available to play in the final due to injury and illness but have contributed so much to the teams success this year.
