Sports Report - Year 9 Rugby vs Brymore

Tonight the year 9 rugby team took on Brymore in the gloom looking to learn from the mistakes from the previous games this season with some new faces making their debuts. Brymore started well kept a rather hesitant Chilton side pinned in their own 22 for a large amount of the first half after scoring an early try. Eventually Brymore scored the second as Chilton started to warm up somewhat. A sleepy twenty seconds saw Brymore score straight from the kick off and they went over again despite some superb defence from the home side.

A good half time team talk was given, asking for less ruck inspectors and more action particularly from the forwards and the for the backs to draw the tackle in and offload. 25-0.

The second half was a completely different game as Chilton pinned Brymore in for large periods and everyone really upping their games. Suddenly at the break down Chilton were competing after losing the ruck inspector look and started to retain the ball. The backs grew in confidence and played some lovely rugby down the line and at several points came close to scoring. Eventually Brymore scored again due to a quick break from their own 22, the conversion was slotted away. 32-0. Chilton flew forward and a great break from Harley Hodge resulted in the ball being retained and passed out wide quickly and Lewis Jennings got over the whitewash to score a well deserved Chilton try. Brymore scored one more try in the last few seconds as Chilton tired and left a huge hole in their defence. Conversion missed. 37-5.

I cannot fault the effort from all of the lads here, as once again they have battled superbly and never gave in and the noise and celebrations when they scored the try was superb to see. They are a developing side and with a few missing players coming back in, could become a very competent side. Please speak to them if you see them and encourage them.
