Sports Report - Year 9 Rugby vs Nailsea
Tonight the year 9s eventually started their rugby season after the disappointment of the King Alfs pull out last week, we travelled to Nailsea School a touch rusty and missing one or two players.
It soon became apparent that there was a huge gulf in the quality of the two teams as Chilton were penned in their own 22 for the first 10 minutes and Nailsea got over the line twice with two powerful breaks. Another score saw a quick team talk and the intensity and organisation of forwards increased dramatically which meant a halt in the try scoring and an increase in confidence heading into the break.
The team talk centred around learning from mistakes and a little grit from the boys. I could not have asked for more. The boys were superb in their efforts in the second half, despite a couple of scores, the boys continually put their bodies on the line against a much bigger, physical and more experienced side and even threatened to score late on.
It was pleasing to see their teacher come and congratulate the boys for never giving in against a seriously good side with several county players. Special mention must go to Josh Clist and Lewis Jennings who were sensational in defence and put some huge tackles in to save some certain scores.
Plenty to work on ready for Haygrove on Thursday.
