Sports Report - Yr 11 /10 girls hockey

The first game against Haygrove saw the team settle quickly and use much more sensible powerful passing into spaces.  However, Haygrove's girls several who play regularly at Bridgwater Hockey club and attend County academy training, were just quicker to react and faster on the ball.  Despite heroic defence by Jess Vaughan and Eva Smith Haygrove's powerful shots hit the backboard. Without a goalkeeper the girls did not give up. Xena made many important interceptions and tackles at the top of the D and distributed to Iona and Aleigha along the right wing. Jess Shobrook, our own county Academy player and Z Mizon worked hard to take the ball to attack.  Lots to build on from the 4-0 loss but a positive attitude.

The next game saw us borrow Haygrove's keeper as we took on KAS.  However, we didn't need her as the girls learned from the Haygrove speed of work/thought and kept possession firmly in the attacking zone.  Jess and Zoe were unlucky not to score with shots saved or just going wide.  Jess tried to flatten a Haygrove defender-they bounced off each other in dramatic scenes.  Alura and Kate came into their own and worked hard to breakdown play in midfield and feed the forwards.  our defenders looked in control even on the occasional fast breaks from KAS.  A 0-0 result with an improved performance left us all thinking 'next time??!!'

So if the girls could all come to training our final tournaments should bring us goals and a win or two!
