Sports Report - Yr 8 Girls Hockey

Last night the 16 girls brilliantly gathered by Alice Pittey met for a pre match talk with mrs Hedaux.  With the Somerset games looming it was time to get focussed.  Only 6 had turned up for training and had been beaten by the yr 7s so stern words re commitment and concentration throughout were had!  The girls responded brilliantly. All held their position, chased the ball rather than giggled and were determined to get good results. 😊.

In their first match v Hay B the A team showed their power.  Fern got into those important forward positions, Alice drove with pace,Angeline battling hard in the centre of midfield, Lauren keeping the width on the left, Charlotte Halley in centre back made timely tackles and released the ball wide for Alesha Hewart to make attacking runs down the wing.  Jazz was player of the first match really showing good stick skill and a 'sensible ' head keeping possession and driving the ball into the D. An Awesome 4-0 win goals for Fern/Alice and Jazz.

The B team played Hay A and with the support of Morgan Edwards practising in goal for the first time this year pulled off a magnificent 0-0!! a huge improvement and the girls' excitement was evident as they ran over to see Mrs H after the game. Charlotte and Megan playing a strong role in Defensive work and Jess w working hard in the middle.

The second games v KAS saw the KAS Bs score 2 goals. and now without Morgan the defenders had to adjust. Katie D and Jenny held strong, Tiffany was a powerhouse breaking down play and Jess made the KAS defenders work.  The girls were so excited to draw back to 2-2 -ask Charlotte to explain them (she could be a sports commentator!)

the final As game was against KAS A who had previously beaten them 4-0!!. Alice was driven!! she used her hockey brain to quickly take free hits and quickly capitalised to score 1-0 up.  Mrs hedaux was strict on the rules and Chilton had to practise their short corner defensive routine several times.  King Alf struck with a well taken shot passing Morgan agonisingly into the far post.  1-1 and then again 2-1down. Chilton did not worry and almost immediately Fern was again in the right place and scored. 2-2. A messy goal following changes in defence led to KAS 3-2 up . with just minutes to go again Alice linking with Jazz and onto Fern who scored a beauty 3-3.

This secured the Millfield somerset cup place for the girls.  So a few training sessions should see them ready for the day 12th Dec.  Well done all and thanks to Mr Butt and Mr Cadmore for their support.
