Sports Report - v Haygrove... The Rematch!
Last night the basketball team travelled to Haygrove for a rematch after Chilton defeated a youthful Haygrove side before half term.
Against a much stronger Haygrove side Chilton started well and were much more clinical under the basket and took a comfortable early lead. Captain Chidge was instrumental before the game giving a rousing team talk and was clearly pumped, pulling the strings and feeding the flair Gatmaitan brothers who scored with some beautiful moves. At half time Chilton led 16-9.
In the second half regular subs were used and lesser defensive experience showed as Haygrove dominated large periods without being able to score regularly. Bown worked tirelessly doing the dirty work that often goes unnoticed. With a few tweaks Chilton restored a healthy lead and headed into the last quarter with a 22-15 lead.
In the last quarter Haygrove really stepped it up and brought the scores close before a couple of Chilton baskets gave the team breathing space. However Haygrove found another gear and scored some quick fire baskets with a high court press that caught the boys by surprise. With the game getting increasingly tight, Bown managed to hang onto his emotions, at one stage looking like he might spontaneously combust urging his team mates on! Haygrove scored again to make it 29-27 but the boys were to see out the remaining, rather frantic minute, to claim a hard fought win over a much stronger Haygrove side.
They were a pleasure to take to a fixture once again.
