Food Technology

Introduction
Food Technology gives students hands on experience in designing, developing and making food products.
Qualifications available: GCSE
Course content
The course will cover:
- The acquisition of skills to enable the production of high quality food products.
- Knowledge and understanding of the properties of food.
- Apply the making of food products and related aspects to mass production in industry.
- Use of ICT together with an understanding of its application in the food industry.
How students will learn
Students will cover a wide range of topics which contain many practical activities:
- Acquisition of research skills
- Experimental/comparison techniques
- Sensory analysis of their own and existing products
- Nutritional analysis of food using ICT
- The acquisition of practical food skills enabling students to develop their own ideas into final products.
How students will be assessed
Assessed coursework is started in Year 10 and completed in Year 11. Students will select from a number of topics and will trial and develop their own ideas, to produce a final product.

Additional Information
This Course prepares students for moving on to careers involving any aspect of this fast moving area of consumer industry, as well as equipping students with the knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle in a consumer orientated society.
