Mathematics Challenge

Chilton Trinity rises to the challenge.

Pictured here are six of the thirty five proud year 9, 10 and 11 pupils from Chilton Trinity Technology College who managed to achieve either a Gold, Silver or Bronze award for the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Mathematics Challenge. They are pictured with the Head of Mathematics (far right) and the schools UKMT mathematics challenge organiser (far left).

35 students achieved either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Award in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Mathematics Challenge.

Set nationally each year by The University of Leeds, the Challenge is designed to extend the learning of Gifted and Talented mathematicians. It consists of a one hour multiple choice paper comprising devilish questions which encourage students to think “outside of the box”.

The students achieved excellent results - four gained Gold certificates, seven gained Silver and the remaining 24 pupils gained a Bronze certificate. Of the four Gold students, three were invited to take part in the Kangaroo challenge (an extension challenge offered to those who perform well on the intermediate challenges).  Of these, one student gained a merit, putting him in the top 25% of those taking the paper in his year group nationally.

Chilton Trinity and the mathematics department are very proud of our young mathematicians and we cannot wait to see the results from the junior mathematics challenge (for students up to year 8) which our students took in April.
