Prospectus-Assessment
School examinations are held once a year for each year group, and in addition termly reviews of students’ progress are carried out. If staff are concerned about any aspect of a student's progress or welfare, parents are contacted by the Form Tutor, Head of Department or the Head of Year so that potential problems can be dealt with promptly. If a parent is concerned about any aspect of a student’s progress or welfare, he/she is encouraged to contact the appropriate person to discuss these concerns.
Parents receive a full report annually on the progress of their son or daughter. At present, these are given as follows :
Year Seven - in April
Year Eight - in April
Year Nine - in July
Year Ten - in July
Year Eleven - in February (prior to examination entries)
Parents' consultation evenings are held for each year group. In addition, students’ progress is reviewed each term when a report is not issued. The results of this review are communicated to parents on a progress sheet and concerns are followed up as appropriate.
In November appointments are arranged between the parents, student and form tutor so that students’ target grades are reviewed and understood by everyone supporting each child and his/her learning. (These grades are identified by careful analysis of each child’s achievements throughout Primary and Secondary School.) Students have a minimum target grade for each subject which the student should be achieving at the end of the key stage. (Of course, every encouragement is given for students to exceed these!) Progress against these targets is closely monitored.
National Curriculum Key Stage 3 tests are scheduled to be held in May in English, Mathematics and Science.
