In Year 7 all students are placed into mixed ability tutor groups and during the year remain together for most subjects. In English and Mathematics students are usually placed in ability sets during the first term so that they can work at an appropriate pace. Throughout the year students’ progress is monitored and assessed, and at the beginning of Year 8, setting is introduced in several other subjects.
