Primary Maths Challenge
Back

At the end of the summer term, 32 Year 5 and 6 students from six different primary schools competed in a team maths challenge at Chilton Trinity Technology College. The teams of four spent the morning solving problems and cracking mathematical codes under the expert supervision of year 10 students from the college. There were three different sections to the competition including a group round, a cross number and a relay race, when students raced against the clock to solve questions as quickly as possible in pairs. The team from Puriton Primary who called themselves “confused.com” were victorious in winning the challenge. Callum, William, Henry and Edward were awarded prizes and certificates to recognise their achievements. Organiser and maths teacher at the college, Zoë Cameron, said “All the teams from participating primary schools worked well together and showed enthusiasm for using their mathematical skills. Their behaviour was excellent and there was a real buzz of excitement throughout the morning as they competed against one another. It was a real pleasure to work and learn with them.”
