Physical Education Curriculum Overview

Team Vision

The aim of the PE Curriculum is to create a broad and balanced curriculum that offers all students the opportunity to develop physically and mentally to improve health and wellbeing in a fun and engaging way. The student journey will encourage participation, skill development, knowledge enhancement and challenge with the intent of harnessing student engagement, leading to lifelong participation in sport, exercise and fitness.

Curriculum Intent

In the early years the curriculum will offer a broad and balanced experience including activities such as games/striking and fielding/aesthetics and fitness. This will lead into students developing leadership skills, cognitive skills, life skills and a better knowledge and understanding of a variety of sports thus encouraging new concepts and ideas. Students will be encouraged to work as individuals, in teams/groups and independently organising their own activities. The focus within each lesson will be challenge, allowing the students to become more confident in themselves and become more resilient. It will enable students to continue to develop knowledge, skills and understanding through a range of activities with a clear focus on cognitive awareness, empathy, mental health and healthy active lifestyles.

Students will continue skill acquisition, gain knowledge of tactics and apply these into competitive game situations. We will raise activity levels with challenge and help students engage in fun, active and healthy lifestyles. By undertaking regular fitness tests each student will be able to compare themselves against national performance indicators. As a result, student ability to analyse performance robustly and with confidence will impact positively on students who take our KS4 examination subject as this is a fundamental core skill to develop.
