Learning Pathways - Year 9 (KS3 to KS4)

During the course of this half term all students in Year 9 will select their pathway choices and programmes of study for the transition into Key Stage 4 in Year 10. This process requires students to make choices about which subjects they will study and continue onto GCSE level over the two years of Key Stage 4. 

Students must study the core subjects of English Language and Literature, Maths, Science, PE. Students must then choose 3 other subjects with at least one of those being from the EBacc choices.

To support this process all Year 9 students will be working through a 2 week tutor led programme of ‘Pathway’ sessions, commencing on 10th March. Students will be informed about the core subjects they must study along with bespoke information about the subjects they can choose to take. Tutors will support students with any questions they may have in relation to the process and/or subjects. All students will be given a ‘Pathway’ booklet which will detail the subjects, requirements and assessment processes related to each course of study. 

To further support students through the pathway process all Year 9 students and parents/carers will be invited to attend our Year 9 Pathway Parents’ Evening on Thursday 23rd March 2023. This evening will involve meeting with a designated member of staff, either the students tutor, Head of House, or a member of the Senior Leadership Team, to talk through and make the final selection of subjects. This meeting will be 15 minutes and will allow for a discussion around the reasons behind choices, any concerns or queries that students/parents/carers may have and the final selection to take place. The Pathway process and the selection of subjects made is really important in a student’s educational journey and this meeting will allow us to ensure that students have made the best possible choices for their future needs and outcomes. 

Booking will become open two weeks prior to the evening, you will receive notification of this along with full instructions on how to select your appointment. 

Whilst we make every effort to ensure that all students receive their chosen subjects we also have to work towards a minimum number of students required on each course. 

The deadline for all Year 9 Pathway choices is Friday 24th March 2023.
